STEELEYE SPAN - TIN ANGEL,
PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.
22nd. September 2000

The concert was fantastic! I've never heard them sound better. First of all, the venue was a room no bigger than 15 ft. long. The stage was only about 8 ft. wide, so the acoustics were great! Picture five people crammed onto this stage, all of them belting out this wonderful music. We had a table right up front (next to the huge amps and woofers), so we had a great view and ringing ears when it was over. They were excellent. They played some of the old stuff that's expected, Thomas the Rhymer, Dark Eyed Sailor, All Around... Some stuff from Time and Horkstow Grange, and they even played a song from the new one. It was called John of Ditchford, I think. Absolutely gorgeous! They also played a song called Stuttering Lovers, but I was sad to find out that it wasn't on the new CD.

Tim Harries has really 'come out of his shell' so to speak. He's doing a great job with the songs. It's almost like he's been holding back all these years and now has cracked wide open! It was the first time that I had seen Rick Kemp play, and I love watching him on stage. He closes his eyes the whole time and seems to 'feel' the notes. (stop me if I'm getting too dramatic here) Gay was in rare form, bellowing out the tunes. Dave Mattacks looked great and sounded the same. Peter was superb! He played the Water is Wide and, even though I've heard it a good number of times, I still got goosebumps!

What else can I say, you'll have to hear them for yourself!
